Common Questions

Answers, no jargon.

The questions homeowners ask us most often before booking an install.

Do I need a 200 A panel for Level 2 charging?

Not always. Older homes with 100 A service often need an upgrade if you also run central AC, an electric dryer, and an electric oven. But smart load management or circuit-sharing switches can let you skip the upgrade. We do a load calc first to tell you which path applies.

What size breaker do I need?

NEC requires the breaker and wiring to be sized 125% higher than the charger's continuous output. So a 32 A Level 2 charger needs a 40 A breaker with 8 AWG copper, and a 40 A charger needs a 50 A breaker with 6 AWG copper.

How much faster is Level 2 vs Level 1?

Level 1 gives you 3–5 miles of range per hour. Level 2 gives you 12–60 miles of range per hour, depending on amperage. Level 2 is what most EV owners use for daily home charging.

NEMA 14-50 outlet or hardwire — which is better?

NEMA 14-50 is more flexible (you can unplug, take the unit with you on a move). Hardwiring is cleaner, can support higher amperages, and is often preferred for permanent installs and outdoor wall-mounts.

Why are your prices so much lower than commercial contractors?

Three reasons: no fleet-software subscriptions bundled in, flat $2,000 labor instead of open-ended hourly billing, and materials sourced directly at cost (no 20–30% contractor markup). See the pricing page for the line-by-line comparison.

Do you handle permits?

Yes. We file local electrical permits before any structural work begins and bill them at cost — typically $100–$300. No admin handling fees.

How long does a full install take?

A straightforward Level 2 install on an existing 200 A panel: usually a single day. A full panel upgrade with utility coordination: 1–3 days depending on the utility's schedule for the service drop.

Do you do commercial installations too?

Yes. Residential is our core, but we install Level 2 stations at small commercial facilities. Let us know the site details on the contact page.
